10 years ago this week….

This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Baseball — Mike Strong strikes out 13 in the complete game as Stillwater blanks White Bear Lake 4-0 in a Suburban East Conference baseball game. The left-hander allows just two hits and four walks while improving to 5-0 on the season. A few days later, the Ponies squandered an 8-1 lead, before rallying with a run in the top of the seventh inning of a 9-8 victory over Roseville. Stillwater pounded out 15 hits, but it was an infield hit by Shaun Marshall that scored Brett Weber with the game-winner.

Softball — Rachel Fosse fires a complete game three-hitter, allowing one walk and striking out nine, as the Stillwater softball team pulls out a 6-0 conference victory over White Bear Lake. Gina Elmer and Bri Peters collect three hits apiece for the Ponies (8-6 SEC, 11-9), who close out the regular season with wins in five of their last six.

Golf — Stillwater football coach Scott Hoffman notches his first-ever hole-in-one while playing golf at Clifton Hollow Golf Course. Hoffman uses a 3-wood to ace the 191-yard 17th hole.
