Historic scenic overlook re-opens; street to close

St. Croix Crossing logoOne local landmark has re-opened to the public, but a local street closes permanently this month, both the result of the St. Croix Crossing bridge project.

The historic Lake St. Croix Scenic Overlook off Lookout Trail near Peabody Avenue has re-opened after crews restored the facility as part of the bridge project’s mitigation work, according to project officials. Workers will complete final restoration work in October when the site is fully accessible.

A temporary closing of Lookout Trail for utility work is expected in the coming weeks and will limit overlook access, according to project officials. A grand opening of the Scenic Overlook is planned in October when the site is fully accessible.

Meanwhile, a section of 56th Street permanently closes the middle of this month, project officials said. Drivers of large trucks and tractor-trailers are urged to use an alternate route if driving between Minnesota 36 and Minnesota 95 until new ramps open this fall, officials added.

Ongoing bridge construction impacts include:

Traffic on MN 95 between 10th Avenue North and the MN 36 junction has shifted east to temporary pavement through this fall with single lanes in both directions so crews can reconstruct and realign MN 95.

Overnight work on bridge pier foundations continues through early December. Crews will work 24 hours Sunday nights through daytime Saturdays.
