CHISAGO LAKES — The Stillwater girls’ tennis team improved to 2-0 on the young season after posting a 6-1 nonconference victory over Chisago Lakes under warm conditions on Wednesday.
The Ponies (2-0) swept all three doubles matches and also collected wins at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles.
“It was a good match,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “I felt like we didn’t come in and play with great confidence, but in the end it all worked out well.”
Stillwater’s Jenna Sherrick and Hannah Quinn bounced back after losing the second set to defeat Shelby Houfer and Katelyn Sargeant 6-1, 5-7, (10-4) at first doubles while Remi Larson and Emma Germundson did lose a game in their victory at second doubles. Playing at third doubles, Lexie Sherrick and Amanda Williams needed a tie-breaker to win the first set but then cruised to a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 victory over Danielle Dahlheimer and Sierra Stendahl.
Savannah Johnson topped Sami Hindt 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and the Ponies also received straight set victories from Aliza Deming (6-4, 6-3) and Shelby Anderson (6-4, 6-3) at second and third singles.
n Stillwater won three exhibition doubles matches on Wednesday from the teams of Emily Frenchik-Clara Ilkka (6-3, 6-1), Olivia Anderson-Hannah Glasrud (8-0) and Kelia Deming-Eliza Weisberg (8-2).
