November levy on tonight’s board agenda

SAISD 834 logoDecisions are slated to be made on the Independent School District 834 fall levy renewal referendum at today’s 7 p.m. school board business meeting.

The final levy amount option will be presented for board approval. Various options have been presented at previous board meetings, but the board is expected to approve the official amount before voters in November.

Board members and district officials have said the renewal is necessary to maintain the district’s current programs and implement the new “Bridge to Excellence” long-range plan. The board earlier this year identified and approved a list of budget cuts that would be implemented if voters reject the levy renewal.

During the board’s 5:30 p.m. learning session at the Stillwater Public Library, junior high and high school handbooks will be presented by Ryan Laager, and an activities handbook update will be presented by Stillwater Area High School Activities Director Ricky Michel, Presentation of the secondary school handbooks comes less than one month before the 2013-2014 school year begins Sept. 3. Michel’s presentation is days before practice for fall sports begins Monday morning.

The board learning session will also includes a discussion of levy messaging and presentation of board goals.

At the 7 p.m. meeting at Stillwater City Hall council chambers, the new technology expert will be introduced to the board and the SAHS state champion track and field team will be recognized. Superintendent Dr. Corey Lunn will present resolutions the board must adopt for the operating levy renewal.
