One of the top scorers in the state this past spring, Sam Sagissor was named the Most Valuable Player for the Stillwater boys’ lacrosse team.

The junior totaled 51 goals and 22 assists in 15 games this season while helping the Ponies finish with an 11-4 record, including 8-1 to place second in the Suburban East Conference. Stillwater was stopped by eventual state semifinalist White Bear Lake 14-8 in the Section 4 semifinals.

Five Ponies earned all-conference honors, including Sagissor, Luke Bromback, Jeff Petersen, Chris Rick and Nick Athman, while Carter Cannon, George Uppgren and Zach Shockency were honorable mention All-SEC selections.

Petersen, who also tallied four assists, ranked third for the Ponies in regular season scoring with 15 goals while Athman followed with 14 tallies.

Bromback, Sagissor, Petersen and Rick also netted all-section honors.

Sagissor set team records for most goals and points in a single season while Rick also left his mark on the Stillwater record book. Rick is the team’s all-time leader in single season faceoff wins (135) — bettering the previous record he set at 121 a year ago — and faceoff wins in a career (298). Rick also set a single season mark with 114 ground balls and finished his career with a team-high 188.

Shockency also tied Jeff Burridge’s goaltending record with 10 wins in a season.

Petersen, who ranks among Stillwater’s top-10 for a career in goals (24), assists (14) and points (38), received the Roger Mathieu Leadership Award. Max Evensen was selected the team’s Rookie of the Year and Bromback collected the Pony Award.

Sagissor, Jake Legato and Connor Anderson were named captains for the 2014 team.
