A contestant in last year’s Chicago Dogs sidewalk chalk art contest checks his work. Chicago Dogs holds its Sixth Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest from 1 to 9 p.m. July 18. Contest divisions are 12 years of age and under, 13 to 17 years and 18 and older. The contest will be judged July 19 by two local artists and winners will be announced at 5 p.m. Register at Chicago Dogs to get an assigned sidewalk square. Chalk for the contest will be provided although colors are limited. Contestants are welcome to bring their own chalk.

ECFC ‘July Jubilee’ set

The Independent School District 834 Early Childhood Family Education Center invites families with children ages infant to 5 years to the center’s July Jubilee from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday.

Participants are invited to explore Teddy Bear Park at 9 a.m. with other ECFE families and enjoy many fun events planned, including a 10 a.m. performance by The Bazillons.

Arts and Crafts in the barn are provided by ECFE from 10:30 a.m. to the end of the event. All families are welcome including current and former ECFE participants past and present.

New group seeks members

LAKE ELMO — Lake Elmo city officials seek 10 to 15 persons ages 25 to 40 interested in serving on a new citizen’s group that wold provide a fresh perspective on future development from a rapidly growing segment of the city’s population.

The group will evaluate several areas including parks and recreation, business climate, educational opportunities, community engagement, affordability, entertainment and activities and accessibility to determine how to best meet the needs of younger residents.

Pie contest announced

Joseph’s Family Restaurant recently announced on Facebook that their pie-baking contest is noon July 20.

Judging begins at 1 p.m. and the winner will be announced at 4 p.m. The grand prize is $200, second place is $100 and third place is $50. The winner would also be the champion for this year’s contest in 2013-2014.

Senior ‘Surf Day’ at library

The Stillwater Public Library holds another “Senior Surf Day” computer class for senior citizens from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The class is presented by the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging and teachers persons with little or no computer experience  computer basics and Internet searching.

Camp seeks volunteers

MARINE ON ST. CROIX — Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake, a non-profit camp specializing in offering recreational activities and support for disabled veterans, seeks group volunteers to help at the facility.

The campground has many suitable projects for church, scout, employee or service groups. Projects include weeding the memorial garden, clearing the Korean Conflict Trail, painting a cabin and building picnic tables.

Law Library workshop set

MAHTOMEDI — The Washington County Law Library hosts a public workshop on Conciliation Court Basics from 2 to 4 p.m. July 24 at the WCL Wildwood Library, 763 Stillwater Road in Mahtomedi.

Workshop attendees will learn if Conciliation Court, also known as small claims court, is the best way to resolve their legal issues. Some topics covered in the session include: What is conciliation court and what kind of cases are heard; what are the benefits and disadvantages of filing in conciliation court; how to file and prepare for your hearing; presenting your case; what to do if you win, and what to do if you lose?

This session is presented by local attorney Mimi Hasselbalch. Hasselbalch has been practicing for more than 15 years, and provides legal representation and advice to individuals, businesses, and families in the Twin Cities area.
