Marie Bonine ‑ Girls lacrosse
A steady performer as Stillwater’s last line of defense, senior goaltender Marie Bonine enjoyed another productive season for the conference and section champion girls’ lacrosse team.
Bonine, who earned all-state honors a year ago, stopped 117 of the 217 shots she faced entering the state tournament for a .539 save percentage. Bonine is also a key member of the attack while making decisive clearing passes to spark the Ponies on their fast break. Her efforts in both areas helped the Ponies outscored the opposition by an average of 11 goals per game in the regular season and section tourney.
The Ponies finished with a 15-4 record (9-0 SEC) while placing fourth in the state tournament.
Evan Anderson ‑ Boys golf
One of several pleasant surprises for the Stillwater boys’ golf team this spring was the fine play of junior Evan Anderson, who capped his season with a 48th-place finish at the Class AAA state tourney at Bunker Hills Golf Course last week.
Anderson, who wasn’t even in Stillwater’s section lineup a year ago, survived a five-player-for-one-spot playoff to qualify for the state tournament. After shooting a 41 on his first nine at state, Anderson bounced back nicely with a 2-under 34 on his second nine to rank 15th in the individual standings after Day 1. His second-round 87, however, dropped him back to 48th.
Stillwater placed 4th in the SEC standings and was third at the section tourney.
