Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD), a USA Archery organization, hosts an open house at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at High Five Archery, 5639 Memorial Ave. North, for parents and archers ages 8 to 20 interested in joining the newly established and only JOAD club in the St. Croix Valley.

A highlight of the event will be an appearance by world champion archer and USA Archery Board member Linda Beck, who will make a presentation highlighting the philosophy and attributes of JOAD clubs.

Designed to grow with the skill of the individual, JOAD clubs offer young recurve and compound archers the opportunity to learn range safety and proper shooting techniques from certified coaches in an environment that fosters mental focus, self-confidence and team building skills. St. Croix Valley JOAD team members will also participate in competition events including The 2014 JOAD National Indoor Championships held in Mankato.

JOAD’s first 10-week summer session begins June 26. Equipment is available for use by JOAD members at no charge. Interested archers are encouraged to register prior to June 26 for program planning purposes. Registration information, club fees, equipment rental and other details are available at
