A celebration of the life of William J. Huhnke, 89, a lifelong Bayport resident, is 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard at the northwest corner of Minnesota 36 and County Road 5 in Stillwater. Interment is at Hazelwood Cemetery in Bayport. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bayport Senior Center. Bill was born March 16, 1924, in Bayport, to William and Grace Huhnke and died May 30, 2013, at Comforts of Home in Hudson, Wis., He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran of the European Campaign, including Normandy Beach, and a member of the Bayport American Legion. As an avid sportsman, he was a volunteer at Minnesota DNR and was an Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association. Bill was an exceptional carpenter and woodworker and also enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by parents, Bill and Grace; sister, Dorothy Faulkner (Bob), and nephews, Michael and Peter Shattuck. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; children, Wayne (Michelle) and Dorothy Bialke; grandchildren, Sierra and Quinn Huhnke, and Anna and Ben Bialke; sister, Beverly Anderson (Donald); nieces and nephews, Barb Wolf, Sandy Pettee and Bill Shattuck, and other relatives and friends.
