WATERTOWN, S.D. — Gertrude “Trudy” Rector, 79, of Watertown, S.D., passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital. She was the widow of Charles Rector. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Benet Place in Watertown and Osceola, Wis. Trudy was born on Sept. 9, 1933, in Flint, Mich., to John and Bernice (Struble) Bloss. In 1951, she graduated from Flint Northern High School in Flint. From 1951 to 1955, she attended Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago, and then attended Michigan State for one year. On July 15, 1961, Trudy married Charles Rector in Flint. She worked as a cook for Wilder Forest and at Christ Lutheran Church, both in Marine on St. Croix, and at Hinomoto, Japan, as an English conversation teacher. She also served three years for the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in Himeji, Japan. Trudy was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church in Marine on St. Croix. She attended Cornerstone Methodist Church in Watertown. She enjoyed loom knitting, making newborn stocking caps at Prairie Lakes Hospital, basket weaving, chair caning and doing other crafts. Her dog, “Sami,” was a very important part of her life. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Kirk Rector of Polaris, Mont., Kevin (Sue) Rector of Osceola, Wis., and Karen (Troy) Breitag of Watertown; eight grandchildren, Jason and Jack Rector, Avery and Brent Bundgaard, Kayli, Cydney, Miranda and Madison Breitag; one great-granddaughter, Emery Dahlgren; one brother, John “L.D.” (Judy) Bloss of Ypsilanti, Mich., and two sisters, Donna Davis of Brighton, Minn., and Joanne Sharp of Gaylord, Mich. Trudy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 2010, and one daughter, Kari.
