Girls lacrosse: Ponies hand C-DH first setback


ST. PAUL — In a game that remained tight throughout, Stillwater never trailed while pulling out a 16-13 Suburban East Conference girls’ lacrosse victory over Cretin-Derham Hall on Wednesday night.

It was stiffest test of the season to date for the Ponies (4-0 SEC, 4-0), whose defeated their first three opponents by an average of more than 11 goals per game. The Raiders handed Stillwater it’s only conference loss a year ago and Wednesday’s victory gives the Ponies a leg up as the only team without a loss in the conference.

Dana Almquist led the Ponies with six goals against the Raiders (3-1, 4-1). including four in the second half to help maintain a slim lead. She scored with just over two minutes remaining for a 17-15 lead.

“It was tight,” Stillwater coach Rick Reidt said. “Cretin has a good team adn they played really hard.”

Carter Sanderson scored four times, including two minutes into the second half to break an 8-all deadlock.
