Volunteers sought for two city commissions

stillwater            The city of Stillwater is accepting applications from persons interested in one opening each on the city Charter and Human Rights commissions, city officials said this week.

The city encourages its citizens to share their talents and perspectives by serving on an advisory board or commission. Criteria for evaluation include, but are not limited to, personal and professional experience related to a specific board’s topic, community and city government knowledge and experience from similar appointments.

The Charter Commission studies the city charter and recommends appropriate changes. The committee is organized under state law and consists of nine members who serve a four-term term and can serve more than one term. This commission meets on the third Monday of a month about four times annually.

The Human Rights Commission advises the City Council in ensuring all city residents have equal opportunity in those area protecte by law and in other related concerns. The HRC has seven members appointed for three-year terms and meets at 7 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month.
