County sets summer remote hazardous waste collections

Washington County will hold seven countywide weekend remote hazardous waste collection and document shredding events this summer after collection sites were approved Tuesday by the Board of Commissioners.

The collection events begin next month and continue until early October. In addition, document shredding will be offered at three Forest Lake collections and three days at the county Environmental Center in Woodbury.

The events are:

  • Household hazardous waste collection from 8 a.m. to noon April 20 and Oct. 5 at the Hugo Public Works building, 6900 137th Ave. North.
  • Household hazardous waste collection from  7 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4 at the Cottage Grove Public Works Garage, 8635 West Point Douglas Road South.
  • Household hazardous waste collection from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 at Stillwater’s Lily Lake Ice Arena, 1208 S. Greeley St.
  • Household hazardous waste collection and document shredding from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1, Sept. 14 and Sept. 21 at the Forest Lake Transit Center.

The county Environmental Center at 4039 Cottage Grove Drive in Woodbury will shred documents from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19, July 12 and Sept. 20. The center also accepts household hazardous waste, electronics, construction waste, yard and garden chemicals and household generated “sharps,” syringes, needles and lancets from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays.
