Boys basketball: Stillwater slips past Governors

ST. PAUL — Andrew Duxbury scored 21 points and Aaron Romportl hit a late 3-pointer to help send the Stillwater boys’ basketball team to a 61-60 nonconference victory over St. Paul Johnson on Wednesday night.

Duxbury, who needs 89 points to reach 1,000 in his career, connected on 13 of 19 attempts at the free throw line.

Sam Lagus drained three 3-pointers to finish with nine points while Matt Anderson added eight before fouling out.

Jalen Mobley paced the Governors (10-7) with 16 points while Quashingm Smith-Pugh added 14 in the losing effort.

The Ponies (7-4 SEC, 13-5) host eighth-ranked Woodbury in a Suburban East Conference game on Friday. The Royals (9-2, 16-3) have not lost — a span covering nine games — since falling to Stillwater 88-71 on Jan. 4.
