Gymnastics: Ponies bounce back with win over Hastings

 

HASTINGS — The Stillwater gymnastics team bounced back from its first loss of the season to breeze past Hastings 136.35-125.15 in Thursday’s Suburban East Conference dual meet at the Hastings National Guard Armory.

The Ponies (7-1 SEC, 7-1) will close out the regular season by hosting Cretin-Derham hall Thursday.

Kylie Wittl set the pace for Stillwater with the top score in two events and a victory in the all-around with a score of 35.575. The senior finished first in the vault (9.425), which was the team’s top scoring event, and the uneven bars (9.1).

Sami Matschi provided Stillwater’s top score in the beam (9.025) and Sidnee Ronsberg led the way in the floor with a score of 8.55.

“Despite some misses, we were able to finish with a win,” Ponies coach Traci Swenson said.

n Also on Thursday, the Stillwater JV team recorded a 121.2-84.6 victory over the Raiders. Top finishers for the Ponies were Thalia Anderson (8.4) in the floor, Emma Carlson (7.0) in the bars, Maggie Germundson (7.8) in the beam and Alex Holmberg (8.15) in the floor.
