Bustad and Bjork are SAHS Athletes of the Week
Sara Bustad — Girls hockey
The regular season is winding down for the Stillwater girls’ hockey team, which is hoping finish off an up-and-down regular season with a strong run in the postseason.
Senior Sara Bustad delivered a goal and three assists in Stillwater’s 7-2 SEC victory over Park on Jan. 22 and provided a goal in a hard-fought 3-2 loss to conference champion Mounds View on Jan. 19. Bustad, who moved to forward out of necessity but is expected to be a defenseman at Minnesota State-Mankato next winter, leads the Ponies with 12 assists to go along with 11 goals for 23 points, second only to Hannah Okerstrom on the team.
The Ponies (11-5-0 SEC, 13-9-1) travel to Roseville for an SEC game tonight.
Sean Bjork — Boys Nordic skiing
On the heels of a strong fall campaign for the state champion boys’ cross country team, Sean Bjork has been a steady leader this winter for the Nordic ski team.
The senior placed second for the Ponies in a Suburban East Conference pursuit race that concluded under frigid conditions at Green Acres on Jan. 23, finishing with a time of 25:24 as Stillwater placed second behind Forest Lake. Bjork also joined teammates Kellen Wessels, Paul Larson and Luke Richie to post a victory at the ABC Relays at Wirth Park in Golden Valley on Jan. 19. Bjork turned in the fastest classic leg (8:27) in the entire field at that event.
Stillwater is scheduled to compete at the SEC Championships on Friday.
