Council Approves Library Board

The Stillwater City Council Tuesday unanimously approved the appointments recommended by the Stillwater Public Library’s Board of Trustees.

Jane Dickenson and Edward Gordon were re-appointed while Vicki DeFord was appointed to complete the remaining term of Julia Sandstrom and Mary Richie was appointed to fill a vacant board seat.

 TIES Conference honors area teachers

MINNEAPOLIS–Andrea Schueler and Kristina Sickman of Stillwater Area Public Schools along with Anastasia Eldridge and Judy Livingston of Mahtomedi Public Schools were recognized as TIES Exceptional Teachers at the TIES 2012 Education Technology Conference on Dec. 11.

The four teachers were among 82 teachers from 43 other districts also honored at the event. The teachers were chosen by their Superintendents for the award which recognizes teachers who model the best practices in their classroom and engage students in learning.

McComber appointed to WIMG position.

BOSTON — Oak Park Heights Mayor-elect Mary McComber was named the second vice-president of Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) for 2013 at the group’s annual leadership luncheon at the National League of Cities’ Congress of Cities in Boston.

The National League of Cities is an organization dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities and includes 19,000 cities, towns, and villages.

Melander re-appointed to state council

ST. PAUL — Harry Melander Jr. of Mahtomedi was re-appointed by Gov. Mark Dayton to a three-year term as labor representative on the Governor’s Workforce Development Council.

Melander was one of several Minnesotans Dayton appointed late last week to the Workforce council and state Board on Aging and Visible Child Work group. Melander’s term expires June 30, 2015.
