The St. Croix County Sheriff’s office has identified the child who was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday as 4-year-old Collin Fitzgerald.
According to a St. Croix County Sheriff report, Collin Fitzgerald was playing in a snow fort in the yard while the boy’s father was plowing the driveway.
Reports indicate that after clearing out the driveway the father backed up and noticed there was blood in the snow. He then realized that Collin Fitzgerald was injured and attempted first aid efforts. The boy suffered serious head injuries from being hit by the pick-up truck. No one else was home at the time of the accident
Fitzgerald was taken to Westfield’s Hospital in New Richmond, Wis., where he was pronounced dead.
“This is the most tragic event that anyone could ever have to deal with,” said St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts. “This is an accident by all accounts and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Fitzgerald family.”
