The Stillwater Lift Bridge, shown here with the lift section raised to allow a boat to pass under, re-opens to vehicle traffic at 5 p.m. today. The state Department of Transportation closed the span to vehicles and pedestrians Sept. 10 for a repair and rehabilitation project. The bridge will re-open a week earlier than the original Dec. 14 date.

The Stillwater Lift Bridge will re-open to traffic at 5 p.m. today, the state Department of Transportation announced early this afternoon on its website.

MnDOT’s website said the Lift Bridge is re-opening one week earlier than the original date of Dec. 14 because favorable weather conditions this week allowed electrical crews to finish the final portion of the repair project ahead of schedule.

MnDOT closed the Lift Bridge Sept. 10 for repairs to the bridge structure, deck, piers and lift mechanism. Some repairs not that did not require closing the bridge were done in the summer.

MnDOT reminds motorists that until the Lift Bridge re-opens, they should follow posted detours to Interstate 94 in Hudson, Wis., and Highway 243 in Osceola, Wis., to cross the St. Croix River.
