Many St. Croix Valley families continue to struggle financially despite the slowly recovering economy, making the holidays a difficult time for them.
But you can help by being a Community Thread’s Holiday Bureau sponsor that provides gifts and holiday meals for low-income families, senior citizens and adults with disabilities.
Sponsors provide $25 in gifts for each member of their sponsored family and the makings of a holiday meal. Sponsors receive a wish list and can personally shop for gifts for their sponsored family.
“Our children had an amazing Christmas thanks to our sponsors,” said one 2011 recipient. “We wouldn’t have had anything under the tree this year if it weren’t for the help from the community.”
The Holiday Bureau also accepts financial, gift and toy donations. Items most needed are gift cards, baby toys and clothes, arts and craft supplies, board games for older children, gifts for teenagers and warm weather clothes. Items can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 2300 Orleans St. West in Stillwater.
Persons looking for inexpensive, fun gifts can browse quality handmade goods at the Stillwater Senior Center Santa’s Gift Shop from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 11. The sale features a variety of crafts, baked goods and jewelry.
