OAK PARK HEIGHTS — After prevailing in its season opener on Tuesday, the Stillwater adapted soccer team was upended by North Suburban 8-2 in Thursday’s home opener at Stillwater Area High School.
The Ponies (1-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead early, but North Suburban rallied to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Stillwater scored again early in the second half, but an injury to top defender Dan Pehrson helped open the door for North Suburban, which consists of Centennial and Spring Lake Park high schools.
“They scored most of their goals during that 10 to 14 minutes Dan was out,” Stillwater coach Rob Hollerbach said. “It was a well-played game, just a little more aggressive than we like to see.
“I’m very proud of my kids, they stayed in there, even when Dan went out. He calls the plays in the back and when he was gone he was greatly missed. I congratulate them for holding it together under duress.”
