Driver arrested in hit-and-run fatality

HUDSON, Wis. — St. Croix County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the driver of a car that struck and killed an 84-year-old woman Wednesday in the town of Warren and fled the scene.

Authorities identified the victim as Lucille M. Hansen from Roberts. The St. Croix County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced Hansen dead at the scene.

SCCSO deputies located the driver of the car that struck Hansen in Hudson, where the 36-year-old man was arrested and booked into the St. Croix County Jail. The suspect’s name was not released pending formal charges by the St. Croix County District Attorney’s Office.

The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in the 1300 block of CTH TT in Warren. Witnesses told investigators that a 1997 Ford Taurus was westbound on CTH TT when it struck Hansen and continued west on CHT TT. Those witnesses provided a description of the car, which included mention of a broken windshield.

The incident remains under investigation. Hansen was the county’s 11th vehicle-related fatality this year.

Assisting deputies at the scene were the Roberts and Hammond Police departments, Roberts Fire & Rescue, United Fire, Baldwin EMS and the Wisconsin State Patrol.


Café reports second burglary


From Sept. 14-18 the Stillwater Police Department had 127 incident reports come in. The calls included: three hit and runs; six failures to display current registration; a cat found in a live trap; a juvenile runaway who returned home without incident, and three calls regarding a nuisance property on Maple Street West.

There also was a burglary reported Sept. 18 at the River Oasis Café where $160 was reported stolen. It was the second time in a week that café workers reported a theft. That case remains under investigation.
