WOODBURY — Stillwater’s return to Minnesota resulted in a return to the victory column after knocking off East Ridge 2-1 in Tuesday’s Suburban East Conference boys’ soccer game.
The third-ranked Ponies (3-0-0 SEC, 5-1-1), who lost their first game of the season at Cedarburg (Wis.) on Friday and followed with a tie against Brookfield East on Saturday, bounced back against the Raptors on Tuesday.
The Ponies grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Patrick Roth, but East Ridge answered before halftime to tie the game at 1-all.
Freshman Cole Bardwell provided the deciding goal for Stillwater in the second half after tracking down a perfectly placed pass from Kevin Meads over the top of the defense. Bardwell beat the defenders to the bouncing ball, lifted it over the goalkeeper and chested it into the net for the game-winner.
“It was just good speed and good technical composure by him,” Ponies coach Phil Johnson said.
