Jaime Purdie — Girls soccer

Jaime Purdie has made an immediate impact in her first season as a member of the Stillwater girls’ soccer team under first-year head coach Mike Huber.’

The sophomore forward scored a hat trick in Stillwater’s 5-0 season-opening victory over North St. Paul on Aug. 23 and added two more goals in a 7-0 victory over Hastings on Aug. 30, which was also the Suburban East Conference opener for the Ponies. Purdie was among a group of eight different Ponies to notch at least one point in the victory over Hastings. Stillwater has outscored its three opponents 12-1 this season.

The Ponies (1-0 SEC, 2-1) host Mounds View in a conference game tonight.

 

Roman Devine — Boys soccer

The Stillwater boys’ soccer team has jumped out to a fast start this season and it has been a group effort.

The Ponies, who are ranked second in the Class AA state rankings, had seven different players score their first seven goals this season and senior midfielder Roman Devine joins Sam Rasmussen as the only Ponies with more than one goal after scoring one of the team’s four goals in a 4-0 Suburban East Conference victory over Hastings on Aug. 30. Devine also scored in a 3-0 victory over Wayzata in the finals of the Minnesota Cup, which Stillwater won for the second year in a row.

Stillwater (1-0 SEC, 3-0) hosts Mounds View in a conference game tonight.
