The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received more than $30,000 in grant and gift funds after the Board of Commissioners accepted the money on the WCSO’s behalf Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office received more than $29,700 through a federal boating safety and supplemental equipment grant to purchase equipment for recreational boating safety activities, according to Sheriff Bill Hutton.
The WCSO Water, Parks and Trails Unit will use the money to buy a 20-foot commercial work boat with a 115-horsepower motor and multi-purpose trailer for use in search and rescue and setting buoys, a boating safety display booth for use at fairs and presentations and 16 navigation buoys.
The sheriff’s office also received $1,000 from the Forest Lake Rotary Club as a “thank you” for the office’s help during the club’s “Winter Plunge” fundraiser. The money will be deposited in the WCSO Water Recovery Unit budget.
