Two St. Croix Orthopaedics surgeons make “Top Doc” list

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — St. Croix Orthopaedics surgeons David H. Palmer, M.D., and Mark T. Dahl, M.D., were honored by their peers as “Top Doctors” in orthopaedic surgery in “Mpls/St. Paul” magazine’s 2012 Top Doctors Edition in July.

Palmer co-founded St. Croix Orthopaedics, P.A. (SCO), in 1977. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1971. After an internship at UCLA Harbor General Hospital, he returned to Minnesota to do his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Veteran’s Administration and University of Minnesota Hospitals.

Palmer is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He trains third-year residents at Gillette Children’s Hospital in orthopaedic techniques and procedures. His orthopaedic outcomes research has been presented at national and international orthopaedic conferences and has been published in numerous medical journals.

Palmer has a special interest in arthroscopy and surgeries of the hip and knee including total joint replacement and resurfacing.

Dahl joined SCO in 2004 after 19 years of practice in Minneapolis and St. Paul. He received his medical degree from Mayo Medical School and did his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Veteran’s Administration and University of Minnesota Hospitals.

Dahl completed advanced training in limb lengthening and deformity reconstruction at the Hospital of Lecco, Italy, the University of Verona, Italy, and The Restorative Center for Orthopaedics in Kurgan, Russia. He is clinical associate professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota.

Dahl is an internationally recognized expert in the correction of bone and joint deformities, limb lengthening, and knee arthritis. His clinical results have been published in numerous orthopaedic journals and textbooks, as well as presented at conferences worldwide.

Palmer and Dahl frequently travel to third world countries, performing deformity and acute injury correction surgery on children and adults, and sharing their knowledge with surgeons in these areas.

This is the 16th year “Mpls/St. Paul” magazine has randomly selected and surveyed 5,000 doctors and nurses in the 10-county metro area, asking them who they would recommend their loved ones see for treatment. The responses produced more than 580 doctors in 42 specialties on the 2012 Top Doctors list. To find out more, visit the Top Doctors site at www.mspmag.com.
