‘Park Rise’ programs continue at county parks

Washington County Parks invites campers and visitors to participate in outdoor, morning "Park Rise" programs on select Saturdays this summer.

"Dip Netting" led by a naturalist from Warner Nature Center is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. June 30 at Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Participants will discover what’s hiding under the water and identify critters of the park using dip nets along the shoreline of Eagle Point Lake.

This program meets at the main trailhead kiosk sign at 9 a.m. Parking is available at the trailhead. There will be a short hike on Eagle Point trail to the canoe launch area. Dress for the weather, hiking and water activity.

"Zumba on the Beach" at Lake Elmo Park Reserve Swim Beach continues from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday and Tuesday mornings through Labor Day. Experience the number one dance and fitness craze in the great outdoors all summer long with certified Zumba instructor and local Stephen Blythe. This program meets on the Swim Beach near the concession stand. Dress for outdoor physical activity and bring water to stay hydrated.

Lake Elmo Park Reserve is at the intersection of County Road 19 and County Road 10 (one mile north of Interstate 94) in Lake Elmo.

Guided Bird Hikes continue from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 30, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. Participants learn more about the birds that call the lower St. Croix Valley of Minnesota home on an easy one-hour hike through the park’s scenic prairies and wooded trails. Bird hikes are led by parks volunteer and birding enthusiast, Shelley Bowman. This program meets at the park’s outdoor amphitheater at 8:30 a.m. In case of light rain, an alternate program will be offered at the boat launch picnic shelter. Participants are encouraged to bring along birding tools, including binoculars, bird guides and cameras.

St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park is along the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Road 76 and County Road 78, in Denmark Township. The program will meet near the campground amphitheater.

All morning "Park Rise" programs are free with a valid park permit ($5/day or $25/annual). Camping is available, although reservations are not required to participate. All are welcome. Permits may be purchased at the park contact station. Dress appropriately for each outdoor program. Programs are subject to cancellation due to rain and inclement weather.
