A pig roast fundraiser was held on Saturday for the St. Croix Trail Blazers, an upstart Special Olympics equestrian team. The fundraiser was held at Double H Stables in Stillwater and included a silent auction with 100 items, pony rides and demonstrations by members of the Trail Blazers. There was also a variety of games and activities for kids.
The St. Croix Trail Blazers have grown into a 20-member team that has also become an adapted riding team that plans to participate in local horse shows in challenged rider classes. The team will also compete again in the Special Olympics Equestrian competition at North Branch in August.
Event organizers Karen Harjes was pleased with the event, saying: "Thanks everyone who attended the fundraiser and the local businesses and individuals who donated items for the silent auction to make it a huge success." Anyone with questions about the program can call the St. Croix Trail Blazers at 651-600-4979 or visit www.stcroixtrailblazers.org. Donations are accepted anytime and can be mailed to 11125 14th Street North, Lake Elmo, MN 55042.
