Almost 500 Century College graduates, their family members and friends filled Aldrich Arena in Maplewood May 11 for the spring graduation ceremony.
Century College Exemplary Student Toby Lillibridge of White Bear Lake gave the commencement address. He noted that his involvement in student clubs and activities enhanced his education and helped land him an internship in his field of information technology.
"As graduates, we have done what many only dream of," Lillibridge said. "We are not the norm. We are driven to achieve our dreams."
State Rep. Carol McFarlane, R-White Bear Lake, the Century Outstanding Alum of 2012, said she has fond memories of her time at Lakewood State Junior College.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be the outstanding alum, or a state representative for my community," she said. "My husband told me I have been preparing for this my whole life, I just didn’t know it."
McFarlane urged graduates to cultivate honesty, integrity, a can-do attitude, vision and respect for others.
"Share your gifts of time, talent and treasure," she said. "And remember the Century College Alumni Association. It’s all about building relationships and remembering how you got here."
