The Washington County Board of Commissioners will not meet the next two weeks, then meets as the county Board of Appeal and Equalization June 12, county officials said Tuesday.
The board will not meet next week because May 29 is a fifth Tuesday. Commissioners Tuesday also canceled their June 5 meeting because of a likely lack of quorum.
The board’s June 12 meeting precedes the annual Board of Appeal and Equaliztion meeting, which starts at 5 p.m. and cannot end before 7 p.m. The exact time of the Board of Appeal meeting is determined by the amount of county board business at the meeting.
Persons wishing to have their appeal heard by the County Board have been asked to sign up with the Department of Property Records and Taxpayer Services Assessor division so staff can review the property, give information to the board and offer a recommendation.
At the June 12 County Board of Appeal meeting, property owners can speak to the board. Persons who have called the Assessor’s division will get time to speak to the board.
The County Board of Appeal meets again June 19 to review staff recommendations, ask questions and discuss and act on each appeal. The board will also approve valuation maintenance changes agreed to by the assessor’s office and property owner prior to the appeal board meeting.
