The memorial at Third and Pine streets across from the Washington County Historic Courthouse hosts Stillwater’s annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday. Col. Eric Ahlness of the Minnesota National Guard is the featured speaker. A flag and flowers, right, mark a grave site at Bayport’s Hazelwood Cemetery during last year’s holiday ceremony. The annual Bayport Memorial Day Parade starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at the cemetery for an observance with remarks by American Legion Third District Vice Commander Donald Skow and Andersen Elementary School students reciting the Gettysburg Address and “Flanders Field.” Both events take place rain or shine.  Holiday closings include: All federal, state and local government offices, the Stillwater and Bayport Public libraries and Washington County Library branches are closed and there is no regular mail delivery Monday in observance of Memorial Day.(Gazette file photos)
