On September 18, 1967, Lakewood State Junior College opened its doors to 503 local students. A few years later, classes began at the new 916 Area Vocational Technical Institute. These two events marked the beginning of Century College.
On Monday, Sept. 18, a 50th anniversary celebration will take place at the college in White Bear Lake. Minnesota State representatives, local legislators and government officials, community members, alumni, retirees, faculty, staff and students will attend.
The event will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A ceremony at noon will include a proclamation from several local communities declaring Sept. 18 “Century College Day.”
