Football — Despite returning just two starters on defense, the Stillwater football team limits Roseville to just 176 yards in a 27-0 season-opening shutout victory. Aaron Anderson completes 11 of 17 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns.Brandon Adair and Max Pung each catch a touchdown while Joe Mergens hauls in a halfback pass from Alex Floen for another score.
Girls tennis — Victories in all three doubles matches and a win from seventh-grader Natalie Phippen at third singles lifts the Stillwater girls’ tennis team to a 4-3 Suburban East Conference victory over Mounds View. Stillwater’s doubles points come from Ashley Dace-Anna Mahke, Julie Colier-Sonja Lo and Kate Lanning-Katie Nelsen. It marks the program’s first victory over the Mustangs since beating them twice on the way to a fifth-place finish at state in 2000.
Baseball — Behind a complete game two-hitter by Ricky Michel, the Stillwater Lumbermen defeat the Minneapolis Adrians 5-1 to capture the Class B title at the Minnesota Senior Men’s Amateur Baseball Association Over-35 State Tournament at the Mini Met in Jordan.
