This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Swimming — Kaela Anderson sets a state record in the 200 backstroke and wins six state championships in the girls’ 13-14 age group to help lead the St. Croix Swim Club to a second-place showing among AA Division teams. The Silver Rays finish just 12 points behind champion Hope/Crystal/Plymouth/Maple Grove (1,484.5-1,472.5). Mickayla Hinkle and Stephanie LeMire also win individual state titles for the St. Croix Swim Club.
Cheerleading — Stillwater Area High School cheerleaders earn three awards while participating in the National Cheerleaders Association summer camp at the University of Minnesota, including the Spirit Stick award, Herkie TEAM Award and a National Championship Bid. Pony cheer team members attending the camp include: Kammi Casci, Breanna Fransen, Jessica Lindquist, Mikal Mamer, Katie McKay, Ashley Pumper and Laura Raduenz.
