10 years ago this week….

This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Girls golf — Seventh-grader Cassie Deeg is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater girls’ golf team. Deeg also received all-conference honors for the Ponies, who place sixth in the Suburban East Conference and eighth in the Section 4AA tournament.

Baseball — After batting .344 during a 10-game stretch, Stillwater graduate Andrew Schmiesing raises his batting average to .283 in his rookie season with the Gulf Coast League Twins. Schmiesing was chosen by the Minnesota Twins in the 11th round of the MLB draft.

Golf — Stillwater’s Tim Howard records a hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth hole at Hudson Golf Club. The ace was witnessed by Craig Anderson, Dean Anderson and Kevin Meinke.
