UPDATE: The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office announced that murder suspect Lucifer Vincent Nguyen, 44, of New Hope, was captured around 11:30 p.m. July 31 in the North Metro. He has been charged with second-degree intentional murder and will be held in the Dakota County Jail while an investigation is completed.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a 44-year-old man related to a Mendota Heights homicide investigation. The Mendota Heights Police Department has confirmed that the suspect, Lucifer Vincent Nguyen, was seen in the Stillwater area.
The vehicle of homicide victim Beverly Cory was located at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo late Sunday afternoon. Authorities have recently received witness reports that Nguyen was seen in Stillwater on Saturday, July 29, around 4 p.m.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the victim’s vehicle was found abandoned at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Baytown on Sunday afternoon. A search was done of the area, including the use of one of the sheriff’s department K-9 units, but there was no contact made and the vehicle was subsequently released to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported it has had calls come in Sunday and Monday reporting possible sightings of the suspect from Saturday. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is working with the U.S. Marshals Office and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office related to any information it has received. As of mid-afternoon Monday, July 31, there had been no known sightings of the suspect since Saturday.
According to the Mendota Heights Police Department, Nguyen’s current whereabouts remain unknown, though “current intelligence indicates that he may still be in the Twin Cities metro area.”
In a Facebook post, the Mendota Heights Police Department said: “he may be on foot, asking people for a ride, or taking public transportation. He is considered armed and dangerous. We are asking that the public take general precautions by locking homes and vehicles and call 911 to report any suspicious activity or possible sightings of Nguyen. Investigators from the Mendota Heights Police Department, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the U.S. Marshals continue to work leads.”
According to a release from the Mendota Heights Police Department, Nguyen is wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in Mendota Heights on Saturday, July 29.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, there was an incident in Mendota Heights involving an armed robbery. The suspect, Nguyen, was located in a vehicle and led the Mendota Heights Police Department on a short vehicle pursuit. The suspect crashed the vehicle and was spotted entering an eldercare facility. The Washington County S.W.A.T. team was called to assist the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office to search the building and assist with evacuation and perimeter. During the search, a deceased female was found in an adjacent building. The victim’s vehicle and keys were missing.
Nguyen is described as 5′ 5″ tall, weighing 150 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous and police say no one should approach him. Members of the public are asked to call 911 immediately if they see him.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from Mendota Heights police, BCA, Minnesota State Patrol and federal agencies. Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call the Dakota County Sheriff’s office at 651-322-2323.
