A man was pronounced dead at Lake Jane in Lake Elmo June 15, after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man underwater.
The man was identified as Ken Xiong, 27, of Woodbury. The man was reportedly not wearing a life jacket.
At about 11:15 a.m., a 911 caller reported a man underwater in Lake Jane. The sheriff’s office water patrol and several fire rescue units responded. Xiong was located and he was pronounced dead on scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, three adult males had been fishing in a canoe. The weather was windy, and there were white caps on the lake. The canoe flooded and sank, and only one man was wearing a life jacket, officials say. A neighbor responded in his boat and rescued two of the men but was unable to reach the third person in time.
Alcohol did not appear to be involved in this accident, the sheriff’s office says.
