County buries time capsule to be opened in 50 years

On June 3, Washington County celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Historic Washington County Courthouse. During the event, the 150th Anniversary Time Capsule was be dedicated with items representing Washington County. The items in the time capsule will give future generations a glimpse of what life is like in Washington County in 2017. The time capsule is set to be opened after 50 year in 2067.

Items submitted to the time capsule included newsletters and brochures from cities across Washington County, yearbooks and T-shirts from schools in Washington County, and many commemorative pins, patches and coins from various public and private organizations. Some of the more unusual items donated are jars of air and dirt from the Belwin Conservancy, a jar of honey from Pine Tree Orchard and a hard hat from the St. Croix Crossing bridge construction.

The 150th Anniversary Celebration also included live music, Civil War re-enactors, picnicking on the lawn and a Civil War exhibit grand opening.
