The city of Oak Park Heights will reconstruct a small section of 59th Street North leading to the Cover Park parking lot this summer. The estimated cost is about $12,000 and will be added to the cost of the Cover Park improvement project that’s underway.
According to the city engineer, as work on the park project progressed, the condition of the street deteriorated beyond what was expected, and it became apparent reconstruction was necessary.
The $12,000 for the street reconstruction will come from the city’s street replacement fund.
Prior to addition of the street reconstruction, the total cost of the Cover Park project was approximately $530,000, funded by park money from Xcel Energy, park dedication fees paid to the city by developers and money the city set aside for facility replacement. The project includes a new park shelter with year-round bathrooms, additional trail, a modified skating rink (without hockey boards) and other site work.
Cover Park is temporarily closed to allow for construction.
