In its final tuneup before facing rival Forest Lake to close out the regular season, the Stillwater synchronized swimming team cruised to a 37-10 East Metro Conference victory over Osseo/Maple Grove in a routines meet on Tuesday, May 2 at Stillwater Junior High School.

The Ponies (5-0 EMC, 5-0), who also dispatched Columbia Heights on Thursday, April 27, have clinched at least a share of the conference championship, but will try to win the title outright when they travel to Forest Lake on Tuesday, May 9. Stillwater narrowly defeated the Rangers 15-14 in a figures meet on April 6.

“We’re going to do our best to try to pull off a final win for the season,” Ponies coach Kathy Henderson said.

Stillwater finished first in all four events against Osseo/Maple Grove, including a victory from Grace Gualtieri in the solo with a score of 64.6667. Sophie Ogaard and Grace Zimmer received a winning score of 68.6667 in the duet while teammates Linnea Coltvet and Anna Koenning (64.5000) followed in second place.

The Ponies also finished 1-2 in the trio, led by Gualtieri, Koenning and Mamie Thrall with a score of 67.6667. Coltvet, Emily Cossetta and Grace Henke finished second at 65.333.

Stillwater also won the team event with a score of 71.5000.

“There wasn’t a lot of time between the two meets, but we were still able to improve most of our routine scores,” Henderson said. “We really strive to improve a little bit each week. The choreography is all complete, so it’s now a matter of fine-tuning and making slight adjustments for the remaining practices of the season.”
