‘Rapunzel’ through May 7 at The Phipps

The Phipps Children’s Theater will present a new twist on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale when it stages “Rapunzel” on Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wis.

The familiar story of a princess being saved by a handsome prince takes on new life in Karen Boettcher-Tate’s adaptation of the story. Instead of the old-fashioned fairy tale theme of a princess waiting for a handsome, brave, and strong prince to come to her rescue, this version of “Rapunzel” focuses on the more contemporary idea that everyone has potential, and a feisty princess can help rescue herself.

Karen Biedermann directs a cast of 22 talented area actors in grades 7-9.

Tickets are $14 for children and $18 for adults. Reservations may be made by contacting The Phipps ticket office at 715-386-8409.
