Don joined his ancestors on Monday, August 17, 2015. Don was born September 7, 1921 in Stillwater, MN. He passed away in the house that he built in Bayport, the village that he loved.
He was preceded in death by parents; Donald Sr. and Laura; wife Ann Marie; brothers Robert and Steven, sister Jean Dando.
He is survived and will be missed by his daughter and son Elizabeth and Robert (JoAnn); grandsons Scott (JoLynn), Matt (Dana), Andrew and Kipp (April); great-grandchildren Ethan, Ella, Kaleb, Wesley and Jaxson; nieces, nephews and special friends including Joe and Diane Legato.
Don's sense of service led him to become an Eagle Scout, join the National Guard and serve in the US Army. He would often tell stories about guardian angels watching over him during the difficult times of the wars. He spent much of his career as a machinist and a machine shop supervisor. Don was a man of many talents, ideas, and was known for his many building projects. He enjoyed daily crossword puzzles, feeding squirrels and birds, playing the accordion, helping with repair projects at church and entertaining friends and family on his house boat.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Bayport American Legion, Boy Scouts of America Troop #113 or People's Congregational Church. A celebration of life will be held August 29th, at 11 a.m. at People's Congregational Church. Located at 309 Third Street North Bayport, MN 55003.
