Sports briefs: Lessard and Swenson record aces

Lessard and Swenson record hole-in-ones at Stillwater Oaks

 

Two players recently recorded a hole-in-one at Stillwater Oaks Golf Course.

James Lessard used an 8-iron to ace the par-3 16th hole, which measures 130 yards, at the course on June 6.

Then on June 13, Charles Swenson notched his hole-in-one on the par-3, 176-yard third hole while using a 6-iron.

 

‘Mixed-Up Tennis Doubles Tourney set for SJHS on June 28

 

The “Mixed-Up Tennis Doubles Tournament” will be held on Saturday, June 28 at the Stillwater Junior High School tennis courts. Please not the site change from previous years.

This popular annual tournament is a fund-raiser for the Chuck Anderson Scholarship Fund.

Doubles teams can be all-male, all-female or mixed. Anyone interested in playing who may be in need of a doubles partner can also contact event organizer Marcy Laabs via email at tedtbear11@aol.com or by phone at 612-201-5833.

The Chuck Anderson Scholarship Fund Committee presents an annual scholarship award to a member of the girls’ and boys’ teams.

The tourney will use no-ad scoring with six-game pro sets. Teams losing three matches are knocked out of the tournament, but there will be opportunities to play with other teams who have lost three times. There will be numerous door prizes handed out to participants. Anyone interested in donating door prizes can contact event organizer Marcy Laabs.

Warm-up starts at 8:30 a.m., and the tournament will begin at 9 a.m.

Entry forms for this event are available at the Stillwater Gazette office, which is located at 1931 Curve Crest Blvd., or via email by contacting Laabs at tedtbear11@aol.com. Entry fee is $30 per team.

Anyone unable to play can also make a donation directed to the Chuck Anderson Scholarship Award Fund.
