Boys lacrosse: Ponies fall to East Ridge

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — East Ridge joined White Bear Lake as the only remaining unbeatens in a balanced Suburban East Conference after the Raptors dispatched Stillwater 6-3 in Wednesday’s boys’ lacrosse game at Stillwater Area High School.

Competing in cold, wet and windy conditions, neither team created a lot of quality scoring chances. Matt Kaye, Sam Sagissor and Joey Freichels each finished with one goal for the Ponies (1-1 SEC, 1-1). Sagissor also supplied an assist.

“The weather wasn’t the only thing that was sloppy,” Ponies coach Ryan Clark said. “Both teams combined for 23 minutes of penalties.”

Thanks to Jake Legato and Zach Stahura, the Ponies controlled 9 of 12 faceoffs, but the Ponies were unable to take advantage in the low-scoring game.

Zach Shockency finished with nine saves in goal for the Ponies.

n Also on Wednesday, East Ridge recorded a 6-5 victory over the Ponies in the JV game.
