Boys golf: Sicard leads Ponies at East Ridge Invite

Jack Holmgren fired a 5-under 67 to earn medalist honors and lead reigning state runner-up Wayzata to the team title with a score of 295, which was six shots better than Hastings. Lakeville North followed in third at 306. Woodbury and Hill-Murray tied for fourth place with matching 313s.

The Ponies finished 10 shots behind the Royals and Pioneers in a tie with Shakopee for eighth place at 323.

“We beat section rival White Bear by a lot, but lost to Hill-Murray, so this is a good early measuring stick of how much we need to improve,” Ponies coach John Scanlon said.

Sammy Sicard led the Ponies with a 77 while Will Henschell turned in his best round of the season with an 81. Parker Anderson shot 82 and Evan Anderson carded an 83 to complete the scoring. Drew Koehler (88) and Braxton DeMeuse (89) filled out the lineup for the Ponies.

“It’s good to see Sammy making progress on his game,” Ponies coach John Scanlon said. “He is by far the hardest worker in the conference.”
