Senior Sidnee Ronsberg was named the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater Gymnastics team during its postseason awards banquet on March 2.

Ronsberg was an All-Suburban East Conference honorable mention honoree who helped lead the Ponies to a 5-4 record to place in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings. The Ponies also placed fourth at the Section 4AA meet with a score of 136.6, which was about half a point behind the team’s season-best score (137.125) it posted in a victory over Hastings.

Ronsberg was joined in earning All-Section honors by teammates Danielle Keran, Natalie Jantschek and Scottland Adkins. Six Ponies received All-State Honorable Mention recognition, including Ronsberg, Scottland Adkins, Maggie Germundson, Jantschek, Keran and Maddie Steffl.

“All of the girls improved throughout the season, adding new skills and improving on their existing skills,” Ponies coach Traci Swenson said. “In many ways it was a building year, and we are very excited looking forward to next year. Our returning gymnasts have all set exciting goals to focus on during the offseason. We are sad to lose our seniors — Sidnee Ronsberg, Skyler Hult, Scottland Adkins, Thalia Anderson and our manager Sophie Gebauer — but we also know that they are moving on to new adventures and challenges.”

Rachel Murphy received the Most Improved Award while Jantschek, Marleigh Wise and Alex Holmberg were selected to serve as captains for the 2014-15 team.

The Ponies have also excelled in the classroom with Germundson, Keran, Kalea Nobello and Haley Tholen earning All-Section Academic honors. Stillwater also won the Section 4AA Team Academic Award and garnered the State Gold Team Academic Award, which involves taking the average grade point average of 60 percent of the team.

With its gaudy 3.91 GPA, the Ponies ranked fourth in the state behind Farmington (3.999), Eastview (3.962) and Brainerd (3.987).

In JV competition this season, Stillwater posted an 8-1 record with its only loss coming against state power Roseville.
