SCPA: Lions win opener in OT


Rose Kaetterhenry scored at the buzzer to force overtime and St. Croix Preparatory Academy dominated the extra period to pull out a 49-40 nonconference girls’ basketball victory in Monday’s season opener.

The Lions (1-0), who travel to St. Paul Academy and Summit School on Tuesday and Legacy Christian Academy on Friday to complete a busy week, jumped out to a 19-11 halftime lead before the Eagles battled back to take a 37-35 lead in the final minute. After Kaetterhenry, who finished with 12 points, hit the buzzer beater to tie the game, SCPA outscored the Eagles 12-3 in overtime.

Lita Schollmeier drained four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to lead the Lions while Grace Kaetterhenry followed with 17 points.
