Stillwater hoops teams shine in Hastings

The Stillwater 5th-grade B girls’ basketball team defeated Elk River 25-11 to win the Hastings  Spiral Tournament on Nov. 17. Stillwater defeated New Prague 35-6 in the opening round and followed with a 43-12 triumph over Farmington in the semifinals. The Stillwater 5th-grade girls’ C traveling basketball team placed third at the Hastings Spiral Classic on Nov. 16. Stillwater opened with a 24-22 overtime victory over the Inver Grove Heights Spartans before falling to eventual champion Cottage Grove 16-15 in another overtime game. It was the first tournament of the season for Stillwater, which defeated Lakeville South 24-16 and Rosemount 29-6 before dispatching the Inver Grove Heights Spartans 36-3 in the finale.
