Sophia Bisch — Girls swimming and diving
The Stillwater girls’ swimming and diving team always rises to the occasion when it comes to True Team state and Saturday’s runner-up finish was no different.
Sophia Bisch delivered a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley for the second year in a row, this time with a winning time of 2:06.32, and also added a second-place finish in the 100 breastroke (1:05.84). The junior also joined Kristin Erf, Ava Howard and Kylie Burgess to place second in the 200 free relay. She also teamed up with Abby Kunze, Erf and Howard to place third in the 200 medley relay as the Ponies notched their 10th top-three finish at this event in as many tries.
The Ponies (8-0 SEC, 10-0) close out the regular season at C-D Hall tonight.
Zach Knox — Football
It was difficult to enjoy because it occurred in a 39-22 loss to White Bear Lake, but tailback Zach Knox delivered a record-setting performance in the Stillwater football team’s regular season finale on Oct. 16.
The junior rushed for a school record 294 yards on 45 carries against the Bears to break the previous single-game standard held by Pat Juhl at 290 yards on 17 rushing attempts in 1979. Knox now has four of the top six single game rushing totals in school history. In addition to the 280 yards he racked up against Hastings last year, he gained 250 against the Raiders this year and finished with 265 against Mounds View.
Stillwater (3-5) travels to Cretin-Derham Hall for its section opener on Friday.
