Billy McLaughlin to perform at fundraiser
LAKE ELMO – Award-winning composer and world-class guitarist Billy McLaughlin will be featured at a 3:30 p.m. concert Sunday, October 27 at Christ Lutheran Church, 11194 36th Street North, Lake Elmo. A free will offering will be collected, with proceeds going to Valley Outreach, which provides food, clothing, household essentials and emergency support to people in need, as well as to Christ Lutheran’s community ministries. Donations of nonperishable items for the Valley Outreach food shelf also will be accepted.
On Sun. Oct. 27 at 6 p.m., organist Bill Chouinard will present the ninth annual “Tricks and Treats with the Mighty Organ” at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi. The performance, with added special lighting and effects, is designed with young listeners in mind, and children are invited to come in costume and join in a parade inside the room. The concert will also include the famous Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach, and Papa Murphy’s pizza will be sold by the slice from 4:30-6 p.m. in the youth and sports center. Refreshments and treats for kids of all ages will be served after the brief program, and an offering will be received.

Yogadevotion, Practicing in the Presence
A new Yogadevotion session at St. Andrew’s Church in Mahtomedi is planned to begin in November. The seven-week session Nov. 4 through Dec. 16 costs $50, and the class needs 15 pre-registered for each class to be held. Register online or call Dianne Nash 651-762-9141.
St. Andrew’s Church in Mahtomedi hosts Practicing in the Presence on Monday Mornings from 9 to 10 a.m., this class is open to all ages. Classes will be held in Sanctuary Room 204. While another session of Practicing in the Presence/Yin Yoga takes place on Monday evenings
5:30-6:15 p.m. Yin yoga poses are intended to work passively with the fascia rather than actively with the muscles. Class will require props, such as a block, strap and blanket or pillow for the closing meditation. You may bring your own props from home or purchase the first night of the class. Another Practicing in the Presence event occurs Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Classes are held in the Great Hall.
Pre-Halloween Family Halloween Party
Guardian Angels Youth Center hosts a Halloween party for preschoolers through fourth-graders 3:30-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The event features games, crafts, face painting, magic, candy and a haunted house. This event is a benefit for Hope for the Journey Home Shelter. Admission is a bottle of liquid hand soap, facial tissue or a cash donation. The event is at 8260 4th Street N., Oakdale.
St. Cecilia Choir Festival
All are invited to celebrate the feast of St. Cecilia, patron saint of music and musicians, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 4th Street N. in Oakdale with the Twin Cities Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.
